A Prayer for an Uncertain School Year

Dear God,

School is starting soon and it is a school year unlike any we have seen before.  I have never started a school year during a pandemic and I don’t know how to prepare myself or my children.  God, please reveal to me what I need to know about this upcoming year and I ask for Your divine wisdom in educating my children during this uncertain time.

God, I am grieving the loss of what I hoped school would be for my children this year and I am equally grieving the loss of what I hoped this school year would be for me.  I crave a return to  routine and consistency and find instead change and instability.

God, when I am confused with the options and the unanswered questions, grant me clarity and wisdom.  When people around me are making decisions for their families that are different from mine, grant me love, compassion and understanding.  When people around me don’t understand the decision I have made for our family, grant me grace, patience, and gentleness. When I am exhausted with the endless quantity of decisions to make, grant me rest in body, mind, and soul.

Loving Father, You have plans for myself and my children that far exceed my expectations.  No pandemic or distance learning school year will change that.  It says in Your Word that You work all things together for the good of those who love You and this school year is no exception.  I pray that in the challenges this year will present, I will turn to You and allow it to grow and shape character both in my children and in me.

Lord, I gratefully acknowledge all the good gifts that surround me today, the health of my family, the home I have to teach them from, the joy of learning.  When I am less than enthusiastic, please help me to reframe how I think and speak about this school year.

Lord, please loosen the grip of my hand over this situation and with open hands I accept whatever you have to give me today.

Amen.

  2. Beautifully said and I stand with you, Annalisa, for my grandchildren also. The unknown can cause unsettling, but we have a God who holds all things together and loves them more than we do. I pray for all you Moms and trust the Lord to make the way each day to answer your beautiful prayers.

  3. Amen Annalisa. Love and prayers for the unknown future ahead. I have been listening to Chris Tomlin’s A Good Good Father and find it comforting. Love, Hope
